Our People: Meet Harry Layton

Business Development Executive at JCT600 VLS

Harry joined us as a business management graduate, enthusiastic and eager to help make a difference. Today, he is a key contact for some of our customers. Here, we get to know Harry a little better…

Tell us a bit about you & your career to date

I did a degree in business management and knew that I wanted to work in business in the widest sense of the word, but ideally in a role that would help to improve organisations. Prior to joining JCT600 VLS, I worked briefly at another company in a sales role. However, it was just about selling a product not the wider picture of understanding a customer’s business and objectives to help make a difference.

What is your role at JCT600 VLS?

As Business Development Executive, I liaise with organisations to see if we can help develop and improve their fleet. I take the time to get to understand their business, find out what is working and what isn’t in order to recommend a solution that is right for their fleet. We design the policy with the customer and then work closely with them throughout implementation to go live. For some customers, depending on their requirements, we will continue to stay in contact.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I’m usually in work for 8.30am, make a strong coffee to keep me going and crack on with checking emails. My days vary but I am either normally attending new business calls/meetings or I’m writing a new business proposal/tender. As we work closely with customers throughout their journey, I will also check in with the wider team to ensure current customer projects are up to date. I also like to break up my day by heading out for a run at lunchtime a few times a week. This helps to clear my head and keep me focused for the afternoon – it also means I don’t need to exercise when I get home!

What do you love most about your role?

Assisting carbon reduction policies and running analysis to see if I can make savings for customers. I love that we are constantly learning every day as tax and government legislation changes weekly.

What is your career highlight to date?

Attending my first tradeshow, Fleet & Mobility Live, as a sales support co-ordinator. I enjoyed getting out there and engaging with different types of organisations. My highlight was making contact with a customer that went on to partner with us, and still works closely with us today.

How would you describe the culture at JCT600 VLS?

Focused and supportive with deep roots in a family culture.

What was the best advice you have ever been given?

“Do more than everyone else.” This came following some new customer feedback; we often go above and beyond what is expected at this stage in the journey, so it was great to see it had been valued. One of the comments was “you did more than everyone else”, so this became our little mantra!

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

I was a vegetarian until I was 11 years old. Today, my favourite meal is steak and chips!
